Video

Due to the restrictions of bandwidth, use of video is not recommended to any large extent. When video is used, production values are typically low and disappointing to the user. Video windows are very small resulting in poor video since it is difficult to discern detail. Nielsen [1] suggests video be used in a limited way for the following reasons:

  • to promote television shows
  • give users an impression of a speaker's personality
  • demonstrate things that move such as ballet clips or demos of products which need to show movement

It is very important that, if you include a video on your site, you also include information about its size so that users can decide whether or not they want to wait. Never incorporate the automatic downloading of a video into the loading of a page.
